David Browning was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) in 2023 and took office in January 2024.
Browning joined MID in 2001 and served as the Director of the Financial and Market Regulation Division since 2012. In that role, Browning was responsible for financial and non-financial oversight of companies licensed in Mississippi. He also worked on legislation for the MID and was responsible for maintaining the MID’s Accreditation status, among other duties.
Browning is a native of Yazoo City and currently resides in Madison with his wife Ashley and two children, Campbell and Carson. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Delta State University in May of 1999. Prior to joining MID, Browning worked in the Bond Division of the State Treasurer’s Office.
All divisions of the Department report directly to the Deputy Commissioner. The Deputy Commissioner supervises all insurers the Commissioner has placed into rehabilitation or liquidation. The Deputy is charged with working with the Legislature on all legislative issues, included budgeting and proposed new legislation.
Pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. § 83-1-7, the Deputy Commissioner shall have the power to act as Commissioner during his absence or inability to act, and shall perform any and all duties of the Commissioner.
